Peaceful Passage
Medium:
Oil

Intent: This is a hiking trail near my house. I walk by there all the time. I associate peacefulness with this view, and particularly love backlit lighting. So this is what I was trying to create here, along with playing with colour.

Shelter, Work, Celebration
Medium: Acrylic

Intent: This painting is about giving oneself the time, and energy, whatever is needed to create. Maybe it's all about feeling safe to be oneself, and letting that come out. It's also a self portrait.

Still Standing
Medium:
Pastel

Intent: This antique stove has obviously seen better days. It's a rusted out plant table now, but full of charm, surrounded by a luscious garden, it becomes part of paradise.

Play Hard
Medium: Pastel

Intent: While I was teaching plein air painting last summer in a park, I came across a group of boys. These Daredevils were climbing a foot bridge, onto a tree. They climb the tree, to grab this rope with a stick attached to the bottom, and swing out over the water. Just one step from Bungy jumping, they would then jump into the water, much applause from a gathering crowd. this is one of ten paintings of these hardplayers.

Oils and Soft Pastels

Artist Margaret Ferraro divides her time between her two disciplines: teaching and painting. Over the last decade Margaret has built a reputation as a teacher of figure drawing, as well as pastel. Believing that a strong foundation in drawing is the key to unlocking self expression, Margaret urges everyone, of all ages, to build this skill.

Margaret teaches many courses in Oils, Pastels and Acrylics at her country home/studio, in an intimate non-judgmental setting. She also teaches in schools, and for various art organizations, such as Algonquin College, and Sir Sandford Fleming College. The continuous thread in her workshops is the development of solid drawing and composition skills: "The ultimate training," she says.

Margaret has exhibited widely throughout Canada and the United States, and has participated in the Pastel Society of America show, Pastel Artists of Canada, and Pastel society of Eastern Canada…..and many others.

Margaret has extensive experience in figure work, and during Spring and Summer concentrates on landscapes and gardens (or any time the flowers are blooming!), going for as much en plein air as she can squeeze in.
